Company History
Growth at Hawkins has never been reactive. Each generation has expanded the company through structured preparation, strengthening technical capability while preserving the values that built it.
Today, Hawkins remains privately held and managed by the fourth generation. We answer to our name, not shareholders. That allows us to reinvest in our people, equipment, and safety programs while maintaining the financial strength and independence that keep the company stable across our long-term vision.
Hawkins Over Time.
The Early Years
1885–1933
Hawkins’ story began with the founding of Parsons Construction in 1885. The Hawkins brothers joined the company in the early 1900s and helped secure major projects like Memorial Stadium. By 1933, they had become co-owners, laying the foundation for what would become Hawkins Construction.
Steady Growth
1939–1952
During this era, the company contributed to major community and national projects, including developments at Boys Town, a World War II ordnance plant, and Omaha’s Memorial Park. Growth continued with the construction of a new headquarters in 1952.
New Generation
1960–1968
The Hawkins Construction Company was officially formed in 1960. Leadership transitioned to the second generation, and the company quickly established itself with major infrastructure projects, including the Missouri River wastewater treatment plant and the OPPD North Omaha Power Station.
Growing Omaha
1972–1979
Hawkins played a key role in shaping Omaha’s landscape, contributing to major civic, commercial, and defense projects including the Omaha Civic Center, Regency developments, and work at Offutt Air Force Base.
Growing Hawkins
1980–2002
The third generation took the helm in 1980, shifting focus toward highway construction and adopting new operational practices to improve safety and efficiency. Continued growth led to a new headquarters in 2002.
Expansion
2006–2024
Hawkins expanded its regional impact with major infrastructure projects like the West Dodge Expressway, the South Beltway, and the Council Bluffs Interstate program. The fourth generation stepped into leadership, and the company broadened its operations with acquisitions and the launch of Raven Materials.
